Biblical Economics

by R.A. Torrey
A detailed research of “What does the Bible teach about economics?” Drawing on both the basic system of Moses in the “Law” and the subsequent teaching of the prophets and of the Gospels this book contains a systematic presentation of the teaching of the Bible on economics. The historical books are examined to see what they show about the actual practice of the nations of Israel and Judah in later years. The teaching of Jesus is examined. The author’s conclusion is that a definite system of economics is laid down in the Law and that, while it was ignored by many of the kings, it was returned to by others and consistently pushed by the prophets and by the early Christians. The conclusion is that the American economist Henry George is closest to the Bible and that his is the most workable system in the modern world.
