The purpose of woman helping man isn’t about exalting the man. It’s really not about him (or her) at all. Her help contributes to the both of them achieving a greater, nobler eternal purpose that is far bigger and more significant than their own existence. She labors and serves alongside him for the same purpose for which he labors and serves. And what is that? The glory of God. Woman helps man achieve the purpose of exalting and displaying the jaw-dropping magnificence of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

A True Woman is characterized by right thinking … She is not swayed by every “wind of doctrine” (Eph. 4:14) that comes along. She has a heart for solid biblical teaching and has a growing knowledge of God’s Word. She knows how to evaluate what she hears to see if it measures up to Scripture. And she knows how to live her life in a way that “accords with sound doctrine” (Titus 2:1).

Trusting the wisdom of our good, loving heavenly Father is safer and far more attractive than trusting Satan’s deceptive sales pitch and stepping out on our own.

What we believe about ourselves determines how we live. If we believe and act on lies, we will end up in bondage,

makes Satan’s offers so alluring and so deceptive is that they look so right. The Devil is in the business of making sin look harmless, attractive, and promising. The problem is that Eve didn’t stop to evaluate what was really happening. She didn’t take the time to discern truth from error. She didn’t stop to consider the cost and the consequences of what she was about to do.

The Bible boils it down for us. It says that if we listen to God, we will go wise. But if we don’t listen to Him, we will go wild. And the consequence of increased wildness is increased pain and dysfunction. You only have to look at the history of feminism to see that this is the case. Many feminists had the best of intentions. At the core, they desired to find a solution to the age-old problem of sin and the pain of womanhood. But when they moved away from God’s design instead of moving toward it, they exacerbated the very problem they were trying to solve.

Men were created to reflect the strength, love, and self-sacrifice of Christ. Women were created to reflect the responsiveness, grace, and beauty of the bride He redeemed. And marriage was created to reflect the covenant union of Christ and His bride.

Every time we look at each other or talk to each other as men and women, we should remember that the person we are talking to is a creature of God who is more like God than anything else in the universe, and men and women share that status equally.1

God want us to put Him on display, so that everyone who looks at us sees the beauty of His image. It’s a profound honor and responsibility to bear the image of God.

Most people—even Christians—have unthinkingly exposed themselves to so much deception that they do not even realize they are being deceived.

Now I certainly had no intention of lying on the form, but I was trying to think of a creative way to make homemaker sound more important. Then the thought struck me: I am more concerned about the opinion of the individual who will read this questionnaire than I am about the approval of the One who has called me to be a homemaker. I had succumbed to worldly thinking rather than viewing my profession as the Bible portrays it—a high calling from God.

Over and over again, the Scripture teaches that God’s laws are for our good and our protection and that obedience brings blessing. But Satan places in our minds the idea that God’s laws are burdensome, unreasonable, and unfair, and that if we obey Him, we will be miserable. He tempts us to question God’s wisdom.

Your womanhood is ultimately not about you. It’s about displaying the glory of God and His powerful redemptive plan.

As obvious as it may be that it’s important to follow the designer’s directions when it comes to assembling shelves, it’s a point so many women (and men) miss when it comes to “assembling” their lives and relationships. The fact is, any time we fail to consult the Designer and follow the directions He has provided, we’re going to end up with a mess!

Eve took the bite. But instead of the promised benefits, she found herself with a mouthful of distasteful consequences—guilt, fear, and alienation. The fellowship she had enjoyed with God and her husband was broken. Paradise had been lost.

When I (Nancy) read Proverbs 7, in my mind’s eye I see women I know who, though they are “churched” and consider themselves to be believers, have made choices that are more consistent with the world’s way of thinking than with the Word of God. I think of a married woman I spoke with who was in an adulterous relationship with a colleague at the Christian ministry where she worked. Or the mother of six children who wrote me a note at a conference where I spoke, sharing that she was spending twelve to eighteen hours a day online, and was considering leaving her family for a man she had met on the Internet. I think of women who have been influenced by the world’s model of womanhood. They lack discernment and discretion; they see nothing wrong with being flirtatious, using suggestive or coarse language, carrying on covert Facebook exchanges with old boyfriends, wearing clothing that exposes or emphasizes private parts of the body, or numerous other “wild” patterns. In some cases, they are ignorant or naïve of what the Bible teaches. In other cases, they are more interested in fitting into the world than in honoring and reflecting the Lord. Some of them have already shipwrecked their lives and the lives of others; others may be well on the path to doing so. “HER FEET GO DOWN TO DEATH; HER STEPS FOLLOW THE PATH TO SHEOL; SHE DOES NOT PONDER THE PATH OF LIFE; HER WAYS WANDER, AND SHE DOES NOT KNOW IT.” Proverbs 5:5–6

God had already told Adam and Eve what was right and what was wrong. But Satan said, in essence, “That’s his opinion; you’re entitled to your own opinion—you can make your own decisions about what is right and wrong.

When God sent His only Son, Jesus, to this earth to bear your sin and mine on the cross, He put a price tag on us—He declared the value of our soul to be greater than the value of the whole world. Whose opinion are you going to accept? Believing a lie will put you in bondage. Believing the Truth will set you free.

Because God created male and female, we women are innately feminine. Granted, a woman can accentuate her femininity or she can detract from it, but she cannot change it—our sex chromosomes are in every cell of our bodies. Our femininity is a gift of grace from a loving God.
