1Sa 17:4 And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height [was] six cubits and a span.

The Vulgate calleth him a bastard: and it is held by some that those old giants were the devil’s brats, b and that there was none of them good, no not one, but all αντιθεοι , and θεομαχοι , fighters against God. This man was of the race of the Rephaims. See Joshua 11:22 .
Whose height was six cubits and a span. ] Hence his presumption, which is the presage and cause of ruin -
“ Magna repente ruunt, summa cadunt subito. ”
