Verse 7
7 There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat .
Ver. 7. An alabaster box of very precious, &c. ] Pliny telleth us that they were wont to keep the most costly ointments in boxes of alabaster. And Herodotus reckoneth μυρου αλαβαστρον , an alabaster box of ointment, among the precious things that Cambyses the Persian sent for a present to the king of Ethiopia. Mary thought nothing too costly for Christ. See Trapp on " Joh 12:3 "
