19 They answering said, John the Baptist; but some say , Elias; and others say , that one of the old prophets is risen again.

Ver. 19. But some say Elias ] This Pythagorean transanimation is held by the Jews to this day, viz. ( ut singuli tertio renascantur ) against so many clear testimonies of Scripture to the contrary.
