Introduction

A.M. 4058. A.D. 54.

To encourage the believing Thessalonians to persevere in faith and holiness, the apostle,

(1,) Leads them to reflect upon the manner in which he and his brethren behaved among them when they visited them at first, and laid the foundation of a church in their city, 1 Thessalonians 2:1-12 .

(2,) He blesses God for the readiness with which they received the gospel, notwithstanding the persecution raised against them by their own countrymen, as well as by the Jews, 1 Thessalonians 2:13-16 .

(3,) He assures them of his continued affection, though he had been hindered from visiting them so soon as he intended, and of his joy on their account, 1 Thessalonians 2:17-20 .
