Genesis 8:2 - Exposition

The fountains also of the deep, and the windows of heaven were stopped. וַיִּסָּכְרוּ , from סָכַר = סָגַר , to surround, to enclose; literally, were shut up ; ε ̓ πεκαλυ ì φθησαν ( LXX .). Their opening was described in Genesis 7:11 . And the rain from heaven was restrained. וַיִּכָּלֵא , literally, was shut up , from כָּלָא , to close. Cf. κλει ì ω, κωλυ ì ω , κολου ì ω , celo, occulo (Gesenius, Furst), συνεσχε ì θη ( LXX ). At the end of the forty days; at the end of the 150 days (Aben Ezra, Murphy).
