Genesis 19:14 - Exposition

And Lot went out (obviously that same evening), and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters,— literally, those taking his daughters, meaning either those who had taken them ( LXX ; Targums, Knobel, Delitzsch), or more probably those intending to take them, their affianced husbands (Josephus, Vulgate, Clericus, Rosenmüller, Ewald, Keil, Kalisch)—an d said, Up, get you out of this place; for the Lord (Jehovah) will destroy this (literally, the) city . But (literally, and ) he seemed as one that mocked— as one that made laughter; from the same root as the word Isaac ( Genesis 17:19 ; cf. 16:25 )— unto his sons in law.
