(1845-1894) Liturgist, born Leuchtenberg, Germany; died Freiburg. After studying at Bonn and Tiibingen, he entered the Benedictine Abbey of Beuron, 1865, and was ordained, 1869. Besides acting as critical adviser of the printing house of Desclee, Lefebvre, and associates at Tournai for their editions of the Missal, Breviary, Ritual, and Pontifical, Dom Baeumer wrote several valuable essays on liturgical subjects, a treatise on the history and content of the Apostles Creed (1893), and a classical history of the Breviary in which he condensed the labors of former students of the Breviary and the best critical results of the modern school of historical liturgists.
