He was the son of Gundleus (Gwynllyn), Prince of South Wales, studied under the Irish saint, Tathai, at Gwent, Monmouthshire, became a monk, and founded the Abbey of Llancarvan, near Cowbridge, Glamorganshire, c.518,which soon became famous as a center of learning.
