Son of Francisco the Elder, born Seville, Spain, 1622; died Madrid, Spain, 1685. Having gone to Rome to escape his father's tyranny, he was noted there as a painter of still life, especially of fish. In 1656 he returned to Spain and soon after founded the Seville Academy. His masterpiece is a "Saint Francis" in the Seville cathedral. The Prado has his "Triumph of Saint Hermengild."
