As related to the law of the Church, the flesh of animals and birds, inasmuch as flesh is eaten by man. The prohibition of meat on days of fast and abstinence is because of the spiritual value of such deprivation. In the law of the Church, as it stands now, the restriction regarding meat is much lessened as to the number of days on which it is not allowed. When meat is forbidden, the use of soup, or broth, made from meat is also forbidden.
