Michmas (mĭkl'mas), or Michmash (mĭk'mash), something hidden. A town of Benjamin noted in the Philistine war of Saul and Jonathan. 1 Samuel 13:11. Isaiah refers to it in connection with the invasion of Sennacherib in the reign of Hezekiah. Isaiah 10:28. After the captivity it was repeopled. Ezra 2:27; Nehemiah 7:31. Later it became the residence of Jonathan Maccabæus and the seat of his government. 1 Maccabees 9:73. Michmash is identified with the modern village of Mukmas, about five miles north of Jerusalem, where are considerable ruins of columns, cisterns, etc. In plain view, about a mile away, is the ancient.
