Uriah (u-rî'ah), 2 Samuel 11:3, or Urias (u-rî'as), Matthew 1:6, A. V. A Hittite by descent, but probably converted to Judaism, commander of one of the bands of David's army, and the husband of Bathsheba. His death was purposely brought about by an understanding between Joab and David, in order that David's guilt in the case of Bathsheba might be concealed, and that he might obtain her for his wife.
