a Baptist minister, was born in Tennessee about 1816. He removed to Southern Illinois in 1852, united with the Church in 1854, and was ordained in 1856. The field of his labor was in that section of Illinois where he had taken up his residence. He was earnestly devoted to the propagation of the principles of his denomination. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
