Cock (or Kock), Jerome a Flemish painter and engraver, was born at Antwerp in 1510. He applied himself chiefly to engraving. The following are some of his principal plates: Moses with the Tables of the Law; Daniel in the Lions' Den; Samson and Delilah; a set of eight female figures, Jael, Ruth, Abigail, Judith, Esther, Susanna, the Virgin Mary and Mary Magdalene; The Resurrection; The Last Judgment; The Temptation of St. Anthony. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
