a Presbyterian minister, was born in Maryville, Tennessee, March 25, 1796. He was educated in Maryville College, and studied theology in the South- western Theological Seminary, at the same place. In 1827 he was licensed by the Union Presbytery, and soon after was elected professor in Maryville College, In 1829 he accepted a call to the Church in Murfreesborough, where he remained till his death, March 28, 1866. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
