Kalki (or Kalkin, also called Kalighi), the tenth Avatar, or incarnation of Vishnu, which is yet future, and in which he will appear at the close of the Kaliyuga (q.v.), "when the practices taught by the Vedaz and the institutes of the law shall have ceased." According to the Vishnu-Purana, he will then be born "in the family of Vishnuyasas (i.e., possessing the glory of Vishnu), an eminent Brahmin of Sambhala village, endowed with the eight superhuman faculties. He will then destroy all the barbarians and thieves, and all whose minds are devoted to iniquity." The expectation of the Hindf, in reference to the deliverance from present evils by Vishnu, is remarkably similar to the Hebrew expectation of the coming Messiah.
