Sa'bat (Σαβάτ, v.r. in Esdr. Σαφάτ and Σαφάγ), the Graecized form of three names in the Apocrypha.
1. The head of one of the families of "Solomon's servants" who returned from the captivity with Zerubbabel, according to 1 Esdr. 5:34;
but the Heb. lists (Ezr 2:57; Ne 7:59) have no corresponding name.
2. The Jewish month SHEBAT SEE SHEBAT (q.v.) (1 Macc. 16:14).

John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
