fool -fil ´ (מלא , mālē' ; πληρόω , plēróō , τελέω , teléō , with other words): "Fulfill" is used (1) in a sense more or less obsolete, "to fill up," complete (Genesis 29:21 , Genesis 29:28; Exodus 23:26; Job 36:17 , the Revised Version (British and American) "full," margin "filled up"; Matthew 3:15 , "to fulfill all righteousness"; Philippians 2:2 , "Fulfil ye my joy," the American Standard Revised Version "make full"; compare 2 Corinthians 10:6 ); (2) in the sense of "to accomplish," "to carry into effect," as to fulfill the word of Yahweh (1 Kings 2:27; 1 Kings 8:15 , 1 Kings 8:24; 2 Chronicles 36:21 , etc.); in the New Testament very frequently used of the fulfillment of prophetic Scripture (Matthew 1:22; Matthew 2:15 , etc.). The International Standard Bible Encyclopedia (ISBE) was edited by James Orr, John Nuelsen, Edgar Mullins, Morris Evans, and Melvin Grove Kyle and was published complete in 1939. This web site includes the complete text.
WikipediaThe ISBE is a classic Bible reference compiled from nearly 10,000 entries written by over 200 different Bible scholars and teachers. In addition to the encyclopedia articles, all of the major words of the Bible are represented and defined.
The historical, cultural, and linguistic information in the ISBE can be of great value in Bible study and research.
But as with any writings of men, the careful student of the Bible must always compare them with Scripture. As you use this helpful study resource, remember that only God's word is pure.
