A literal version would be: Still do our eyes pine away for our vain help. In our watching Gesenius, Furst, Nagelsbach, and many others translate, on the watch tower. The sense is not materially changed by this rendering, and there are difficulties in the way of it. On the whole, the present Version is to be preferred. read more
