FOR THY NAME'S SAKE - Part 1

Quicken me, O LORD, for thy names' sake: for thy righteousness' sake bring my soul out of trouble." Psalm 143:11
Why is revival thwarted? Why does revival tarry? The answers are multifaceted, but one sure aspect that must be addressed is: For whose sake do we desire personal and corporate revival? Ours or God's? This addresses the thorny issue of motives. Revival should ultimately be for God's Name's Sake.
The Psalmist David, especially in Psalm 119, makes a passionate appeal for personal revival and renewal. Nine times in this Psalm, dedicated to praising the virtues of the Word of God, does the Psalmist appeal to God for His quickening (verses 25, 37, 40, 88, 107, 149, 154, 156, 159) I like the way the KJV translated the Hebrew> The word "quicken" accurately captures the concept of life-giving invigorating rejuvenation. So often we are sluggish, deflated, afflicted, troubled. The Psalms provide a marvelous repertoire of prayers for revival.
