The Gospel was for the whole world, first for the Jews and then for the Gentiles and yet up to this point of time, everyone seemed comfortable in Jerusalem, and it seemed nobody was thinking about the Gentiles, the nations who were lost in their sin. I can’t help but say this is so significant. The Israelites in all their history were to be a kingdom of priests to the nations. Yet, they failed miserably in that. Throughout their history they often became like the nations around them, but they had never brought nations into the family of God! This is all about to change!

The Sanhedrin could no longer listen to Stephen and they shut their ears to him as their ancestors had done to the prophets and they stoned Steven to death and the early Christians fled Jerusalem and carried with them the Gospel of Jesus. This demonstrated how even in terrible situations, God uses events for his own glory.

Nicodemus is uncertain of his future because he has no confidence in his performance.

I can’t say this any stronger. A Spirit filled Christian speaks! In fact they have to speak! We are not quite sure who said these words, “Preach the gospel if necessary use words.” (Francis of Assisi). I use to sympathise with that statement until I realised it was ridiculous. “A Spirit filled Christian speaks and they can’t help but to speak.” The only excuse for not speaking is that you have been intimidated not to speak and the Devil is laughing.

We need to ask the question at this point, as to whether we are free as Christians to walk out of the battle. Is a soldier allowed to leave his place in the ranks or on the field of battle? Shouldn’t he wait for his commanding officer to tell him where he is to serve next? Jezebel had badly frightened Elijah or burst his dreams of a nation under God! He felt that his burden was too heavy and his yoke too much for him to carry.

This moment on the road to Emmaus leads to a discovery for the disciples on their journey which changed their lives eternally.  An understanding of who the man journeying with them and what it is that has happened can change our lives also. Jesus was raised to life, resurrected - and for those who believe this, life is forever changed.

In this devotion we get an insight into Jeremiah's thinking and how he really struggled with all the opposition to his calling.

Jeremiah 20:7 - 18, Reading 19, "You deceived me, Lord."

When the phrase, 'What was that' is used it might be en exclamation of disbelief, it might be said in confusion or uncertainty or simply a genuine question.  We seek to consider the year 2020 and what was that?  what has just happened?  What is it that we have seen and experienced here in Australia and around the world?<br />
For some people, they might question where God has been this year, what has been doing, has he been doing anything?  Does God care or is he not able to help and save?<br />
Truly we do not know and so must trust that God is sovereign, he is loving, he is all-wise and powerful to bring all things to his desired end.

Today we’ll be looking at Ephesians 5:1-2 and the example that Christ gives us of self-sacrificial love.  Because we are loved – we are able to love others.  Imitate God as beloved children! <br />

This devotion encourages us to put off the old clothing of our un-converted life and put on the new clothing of our converted life.

Ephesians 1: 18  "May the Eyes of your Heart be Enlightened."

Paul reminds us that those who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God (v.14). This is so re-assuring. Not only does God’s Holy Spirit awaken in ourselves a deep longing to know God and to know Jesus but He reminds us continually that we are part of the family. As Christians we use the word, “Assurance.” There is no need to fear that you are part of the family one moment and rejected the next moment. The intimate words we are looking at is "Abba, Father."

What about that person and I think what Paul writes here is one of the best treatises on the subject that you are ever likely to find! While before becoming a Christian, Paul could see in himself a desire to flout the law, to do what the law told him not to do, now there is a spiritual battle within Paul. Now he is no longer comfortable with his sin. Now he desires to fight it!

The sobering question is to ask ourselves, "Who is our master"? Who do we follow? Our master is the one we follow! If we follow sin then sin is our master. If we follow Jesus then he is our master! Paul is urging the Roman Christians not to allow sin to be their master but Jesus. He is urging them to fight sin in their lives and to live a life worthy of the name Jesus.

This week's message continues to look at the benefits and blessings we have as a result of our justification.  Paul also uses these blessings as evidence of the assurance of salvation that we have.  There is, therefore, assurance of salvation through trials, through God's love for us and because we have been reconciled and justified.

What Paul is saying here is that faith and the law are opposites and if a person chooses one he or she has in actual fact rejected the other. It is impossible to be saved by both works and faith at the same time. Putting it another way. If you are depending on the law to save you, you are depending on yourself, your abilities, your skills, your determination, your will power but if you are depending on faith in God, then you have turned your back on your will, skills, abilities and determination. Instead you are resting on God’s power to save you.
