Ezra was determined to master God’s law, to practice it as a way of life, and to teach it to all Israel so they could learn to please God (see Ezra 7:10). The king gave permission to anyone who wanted to return with Ezra to do so.
I. EZRA IDENTIFIED (Ezra 7:1-6)
Our ancestry may be important, but not as important as God’s will for where He wants us to be to serve Him (Ezra 7:1-6).

II. EZRA TRAVELS TO JERUSALEM (Ezra 7:7-10)
God’s timing for our lives is always right on time (Ezra 7:7-9).
Like Ezra, as Christians we are to commit ourselves to study God’s Word, obey it and then share it with others (Ezra 7:10).

III. EZRA’S ASSIGNMENT (Ezra 7:23-26)
God can move upon the heart of any leader causing them to have favor on His people
He is called “a ready scribe in the law of Moses” meaning that he was a learned man, skilled in knowledge of the Law and was able to teach it to others
When we disobey God’s laws we can expect His discipline and judgment (Ezra 7:26).

Because he was committed to the law of God and the wisdom of God, Ezra was a successful leader in Israel. He gave himself to the study of the Word of God and His law so that he could teach others to do the same (see II Timothy 2:2). Ezra’s habits should be copied by all Christians for he committed himself to studying, doing and teaching God’s Word to His people. Every believer is called to do the same thing (see Matthew 28:19-20; II Timothy 2:14).
