“God’s jealousy is love in action. He refuses to share our hearts with any rival, not because He wants us all for Himself, but because He knows that only through loyalty to Him will we be saved.
II. THE GOD OF WRATH AND MERCY(Nahum 1:2-3, 6-8)
2. God is powerful enough to exact vengeance on both His and His people’s enemies (Nahum 1:3).
3. When the all-powerful God is angry at sin, no one can stand against Him (Nahum 1:6).
4. Yes, God is good and will be a refuge to those who trust Him; but He’ll bring darkness upon His enemies (Nahum 1:7-8).
The prophet is writing to a remnant. Those left after the brutal Assyrians had destroyed the northern part of the kingdom, savagely deporting relatives and friends.
Nahum is comforting Israel, the oppression they have faced will draw the wrath of the most powerful God against their enemies.
Just as God is powerful, he is also compassionate. And so, the faithful remnant of Israel have a refuge in time of trouble.
