Four responses to a renewed view of God’s sovereignty. How do we respond to this understanding of God’s sovereignty? First, I need to hope in God’s mercy (Lam 3:21). Second, I am to wait on God’s timing (3:25-27). Third, I am to submit to God’s plan (3:28-30); Jeremiah tells how this experience of suffering patiently, silently, and with endurance is to take place, i.e., what it means to wait in silence. Finally, the reader should be completely satisfied with reproach. God has ordained the exile for specific reasons with particular ends. For the goal of hope to occur, one must learn the lessons of repentance in exile.
