Justice and Righteousness Isaiah 9:2-7 Sunday School Lesson International Sunday School December 19 2021 Justice and Righteousness Reign Isaiah 9:2-7
I. A TIME OF JOY AND PEACE (Isaiah 9:2-5)
A. A time of light and blessing (Isaiah 9:2-3).
1. The LORD’s greatest blessings are often reserved for those who are held in low esteem in this world (Isaiah 9:2).2. It is in the approving presence of God that genuine joy and fulfillment are found (Isaiah 9:3).
B. A time of victory (Isaiah 9:4-5).
A “yoke” was a wooden frame put over the necks of work animals, and was connected by ropes to the plow or wagon they were to pull. A “yoke” speaks figuratively of servitude.
The “staff” was a rod used to beat the shoulders and back of work animals to make them work harder.
Surely, it is not by might or power but by His Spirit that the LORD’s victories are won
With Jesus reigning as King there will be no need for weapons because peace will reign. 3. Israel’s exaltation and ours, like Gideon’s victory over the Midianites (see Judges Chapters 6 &7) will ultimately be accomplished by the mighty power of God, not by self-effort (Isaiah 9:4).
4. The only perfectly just vengeance is that which is carried out by God (Isaiah 9:5; Romans 12:19).

II. A PERFECT RULER (Isaiah 9:6-7)
A. His character (Isaiah 9:6).
The phrase “and his name shall be called” does not refer to proper names, but describes the reputation, attributes and character of the coming King.
“The mighty God” clearly speaks of Messiah’s deity.
The Messiah will end all wars in every part of creation during His millennial (thousand-year) reign
5. Human rulers fail us, but Christ’s rule will be perfect (Isaiah 9:6-7).
God will prove Himself faithful to all His promises through the Anointed One, His Son Jesus Christ.
