Many events in life are unexpected, perhaps even undesired. The thought of a crucified messiah would not only have been unexpected by the people of Israel, the very notion would have been unthinkable.

Still, the ultimate, defining work of Jesus came through the most unexpected of events… Jesus crucified. While not a typical text to explore during advent, we’ll look at Luke 23:33-49 to see what it reveals about Jesus, but also why that makes His birth so, so, so significant.
