How to Receive Direction From God | Matthew 2:19-23

The East End Church of Christ, is a local congregation of Christians meeting in the northeast section of the city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.  We believe that the Bible is the Word of God, and that you can only be saved by God's grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8).  Living faith is a faith that obeys God's commands.  To become a Christian, one must believe in Jesus Christ, and his death burial and resurrection, repent of their sins, confess Jesus Christ as the Son of God, and be baptized (immersed in water) for the remission of sins.  Following baptism, one must remain faithful unto death in order to receive the eternal reward of Heaven (Revelation 2:10).  The church here at East End does not have any of its own creeds, we seek to only follow the Bible.  All visitors are welcome to attend any of our services.

Herod the Tetrarch (Herod Phillip II) ruled northeast of Decapolis, while Herod II (Herod Phillip I) was married to Herodias. I'm sorry for any confusion, as even I was confused in keeping the many members of this family straight. **

We are reformed in that we believe in the doctrines of grace.  We do expository preaching, and are passionate about missions, weekly prayer meetings and evangelism. Bible Study: Matthew 2:13-23

The purpose of Providence Presbyterian Church is to glorify God by providing a Reformed Christian assembly in which is proclaimed and taught the whole counsel of God, as revealed in His Holy Word, in order to equip the saints for worship and service within the body, that believers will be lifted up, edified, and encouraged through the Holy Spirit to be obedient to the Word, constant in doctrine and fellowship, and effective in witness that, through Jesus Christ, the kingdom of God will be more fully revealed in this community and throughout the world.

Matthew's claim that Jesus being called a Nazarene fulfilled a prophecy can seem a bit troublesome at first blush, since there is no mention of Nazareth in the Old Testament. However, as a summation of the consistent messaging across the prophets, this statement contains powerful interpretations of Jesus's lineage and of the nature of the the world's relationship to God. 
 
[Mat 2:19-23 NASB] 19 But when Herod died, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, and said, 20 "Get up, take the Child and His mother, and go into the land of Israel; for those who sought the Child's life are dead." 21 So Joseph got up, took the Child and His mother, and came into the land of Israel. 22 But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. Then after being warned [by God] in a dream, he left for the regions of Galilee, 23 and came and lived in a city called Nazareth. [This was] to fulfill what was spoken through the prophets: "He shall be called a Nazarene."
