Buck Penrose has been wrongfully convicted and sentenced to hang in Ft. Gates, Texas for horse theft. His teenage son, Pen, and an old Hasinai native called Crazy Loon have to travel to Ft. Smith, Arkansas for a suitable Percheron stallion to replace the one that was stolen in order to save his father's life.
On the trail back home, Pen decides that the situation requires the aid of someone more suited to deal with the liars and thieves that are threatening to destroy his family. So he seeks out the family outcast, Frank Shoker, a gunman feared on the frontier for his temper, lightning fast gun, and rawhide fists.
Enjoy reading the rich descriptions of the wildlife, fauna, and challenges found on the 1850s frontier as Pen's travels take him deep into the plains of West Texas, early Buffalo Gap, and the Colorado River basin. Hold your breath when he encounters the Comanche War Chief, Rags, almost indescribable hardship, and constant threats against the magnificent stallion known as Samson.
Will they make it home in time to save his father from the hangman's noose?
