Cover Up by Bryan Cook We were doing family devotions and I came across an analogy from the sin of Achan in Joshua to the church in North America. After Achan hid the gold in his tent, the Israelites went out as before (defeat of Jericho) and had no idea that God's power was not with them until they were defeated by the enemy –Ai. Joshua knew there was something wrong and tore his clothes. God revealed that someone in the camp had disobeyed and was hiding it. This "cover-up" sin by one family caused all of the Israelites to be defeated. This is what is happening in many of the churches in North America. We are going out to battle as before (100 years or more ago) and are making very little headway in this battle for souls against Satan. Each church is like a little Israelite camp. We are to fight as an army taking ground for God – making disciples and winning more souls and so on. The problem is that we have unconfessed sin in the congregation that is not dealt with. bitterness, envy, anger, covetousness, etc.). This stops the HOLY SPIRIT's power from working in the church and community surrounding the church. In order to bring back the power of the Holy Spirit we have to do as Joshua. Stop the war and find why we have no power, why our converts are not lasting, why we are not seeing the Holy Spirit move as he so clearly did in the book of Acts and 200 years ago here in North America. Why keep up useless activity if we have sin in our camp? I think we can learn a lesson from Joshua. If we are not winning then we have sin that is covered up in our midst and it must be confessed before our most holy, righteous God. II Chronicles 7:14. Start praying that God would raise up prayer warriors in each church across this nation. Let's get serious about holiness ourselves by asking God to search our hearts Psalm 139:23-24. Be ye filled with Holy Spirit - Ephesians 5 is a command. Remember, God has your soul, now he wants your body. Romans 12:1-2.
