When the storm is at its height, Christ comes near, not in the calm but in the very midst of the waves. So also does He ordinarily display His power: not by removing every trouble, but by showing Himself sovereign over them. And Christ dispels the disciples' fear with a single word: “Take courage; it is I. Do not be afraid.” Here is the foundation of all peace—Christ's divine presence, not our circumstances.

Demons, Storms, And Jesus | Matthew 14:22-33

The passage begins with a moment of personal sorrow for Jesus, for He has just received news of the death of John the Baptist. We see that Jesus “withdrew from there in a boat to a desolate place by himself” (verse 13). Yet even in His grief, we observe the unrelenting love and compassion of Christ. When the crowds follow Him, “He saw a great crowd, and He had compassion on them” (verse 14). Notice that Jesus does not dismiss the crowds or send them away. Instead, He takes pity on them, healing their sick and addressing their physical and spiritual needs.

The Message to the Magistrate | Matthew 14:1-12

Christ here does not abolish the Sabbath, but restores it. In appealing to King David and the priests, our Lord teaches us that the ceremonial observance of the Law must yield to the Law of necessity (nature) and the Law of mercy (grace). The Sabbath was made for man - not as a yoke of bondage, but as a time of rest in God, for worship, and for acts of mercy.

She feared being chidden for coming clandestinely, but she is encouraged... The saints' consolation is founded in their adoption.” -Matthew Henry

Are Today's Jews "Opposing All Mankind"? (1 Thessalonians 2:13-16) @contramundumpodcast

We should not judge too quickly or without reason, especially when our judgment is based on jealousy or personal bias. We should also avoid assuming the worst or interpreting others' words and actions in the least charitable light. Instead, our judgments must be made with mercy, and without any desire to do harm. Further, we must not judge someone's character based on a single action, and we must avoid the type of judgment that only God can render - judging people’s hearts or intentions. Lastly, we must restrain ourselves from making judgments about someone’s eternal fate (Matthew 18:17).
