Jesus’ Position Over Angels
(Heb. 1:5–7)
I. Jesus is Son and Messiah (v.5)
A. Jesus is declared Son by the fulfillment of the resurrection [Rm 1:4; Acts 13:32-33; Gen 48:21-22] (v.5a)
B. Jesus is declared the fulfillment of the Davidic Promise [Ps 2:1-12; 2 Sam 7; Lk1:30-33; rev 5:1-5] (v.5b)
1. God promised David that…
1. David is to have a child…who shall succeed him and establish his kingdom.
ii. Solomon shall build the Temple.
iii. The Davidic throne shall not be taken from Him.
iv. David’s house, throne, and kingdom shall be established forever.
II. Jesus is Superior in Ministry (v. 6-7)
A. As the lesser, angels worship Him now and will visibly worship Him in the Millennial Kingdom (v.6)
B. As the lesser, angels are transitory in how they conduct their ministry. [Jn 6:66-69] (v.7)
Point to Ponder:
Jesus is superior to angels in, by, and through His life and ministry because He is God. He is the only means for man’s redemption and salvation. “A man may go to Heaven without health, without riches, without honors, without learning, without friends; but he can never go there without Christ.”
