Satan’s Henchmen: The Antichrist & False Prophet
(Rev. 13:1-18)
I. Where do they come from?
A. The Antichrist and false prophet are viewed as arising from a future New World government.
a. Names of the Antichrist in the Bible
1. The little horn (Dan. 7:8)
2. A king, insolent and skilled in intrigue (Dan. 8:23)
3. The prince who is to come (Dan. 9:26)
4. The one who makes desolate (Dan. 9:27; Mt. 24:15)
5. The king who does what he wants (Dan. 11:36-45)
6. The foolish shepherd (Zech. 11:15-17)
7. The man of destruction (2 Thes. 2:3)
8. The lawless one (2 Thes. 2:8)
9. The rider on the white horse (Rev. 6:2)
10. The beast who comes from the sea (Rev. 13:1-2)
B. The Antichrist will be the political leader and the false prophet will be the religious leader. (Rev. 13:2-9; 11-18)
II. What is their goal?
A. To establish a one world religion (2 Th. 2:4; Mt. 24:15)
B. To establish a one world government (Rev. 6:2; 13:4)
C. To establish a one world economy (Dan. 11:36-37, 42-25)
a. Top Seven Things to Know About the Antichrist:
1. He will not be known until after the rapture. (2 Th. 2: 3-8)
2. He will begin from anonymity and rise to power. (Dan 7:8)
3. He will be a Gentile leader from the revised Roman Empire. (Dan. 9:24-27)
4. He will make a 7 year peace treaty with Israel. (Dan 9:27)
5. He will be assassinated and restored to life. (Rev 13:3)
~ Explaining the miracle of the Antichrist’s resurrection (3 Views):
1) God raises him back to life to complete His own eschatological purposes (2 Thes. 2:7-12).
2) It is a false miracle. The antichrist only has the appearance of a resurrection. (Jn. 11:25-26; 5:21; Ex. 8:16-19)
3) The miracle of a resurrection is not of a person but of the Revised Roman Empire (BC 476). (Rev. 17:9-14)
6. He will sit in the Temple and declare himself to be God. (2 Thes 2:4)
7. He will be defeated by Christ at the Second Coming.
b. Top Seven Things to Know About the False Prophet
1. He rises out of the earth (Rev. 13:11-12a)
2. He promotes worship of the Antichrist ( 13:12b)
3. He performs signs and miracles (13:13)
4. He deceives the whole world (13:14)
5. He kills those who refuse to worship the Antichrist (13:15)
6. He controls the economic commerce (13:17)
7. He will be defeated by Christ at the Second coming (19:20)
III. What happens to them?
A. The Antichrist and false prophet are seized by Jesus when he returns. (Rev. 19:20a)
B. The Antichrist and false prophet are thrown into the lake of fire or hell. (19:20b)
IV. What does this mean for us?
A. It means that if we are Christians and know the truth, we have an obligation to share the good news of the Gospel to everyone.
B. It means that if you are not a Christian the flood gates of God’s mercy are open and wide. Trust in Jesus and what He did on the cross for your eternal life.
