"I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;"
In Proverbs 24 :30 -34, there is a very descriptive lesson for us. And even though, I am used ot only taking one verse at a time, we will deal with all 5 of these verses in a row. I went by the field of the slothful - word study, went; Solomon derived a huge part of his wisdeom from observation. The knowledge of wisdom comes from God. God is wisdom and when He asked Solomon to ask for anything, Solomon said, 'I need wisdom to lead these people.' And God imparted wisdom to him. As we read through Proverbs, Ecclesiastes we see his continued study of the ways of man. Now men may study all their life and increase in knowledge, but that is not wisdom. It is God that opens the mind, the heart and the will to see and turn from that which pleases not God.
Many claim that they know wherein their sin lies, yet they never leave it. Thus they continue in their sin, this is not wisdom but foolishness. So we see Solomon taking a stroll down the road, and as he goes, he obseves and applies thought. 'I went by the field of the slothful', he sees and he makes instruction. And before we deal with the 'slothful' term, which way are you going? 'I went by . . .' we see thousands of things per day, what do you see? When out and about of life, work, friends, family what do you see? Having eyes to see, canst thou see? Unless God opens the eyes, no man shall see. It is a very good lesson to learn, the 'art of people watching'. My dad, taught us this as we would sit and wait on my mom at the mall or at stores. He would often ask, 'What doyou see with that couple?' 'Do you notice anything about that?' Provoking us to examine and see beyond seeing. Application, knowledge, observations, lessons learnt all these things to consider. 'As I went by', then consider as you go by. Don't just 'go by', consider the in's and out's of it all.
