"'As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly."
We are left with a very gross illustration here by Solomon. Again, Solomon was the great observer. All his wisdom came as God revealed and opened his eyes to see. Unless the Lord opens the eyes to see, blindness remains. Without observation wisdom cannot come forth. It is not just a matter of seeing. Many see the same things, but the application of it to life is where the difference is found. So as Solomon is outside he observes a dog pass by. He watches the dog, he sees the dog stop and get sick. The dog trots around, sniffs around and then return to eat what was just vomitted out. Many have probably seen this natural way of a dog. But then God speaks to the soul and reveals a deeper spiritual truth. How many times in the Bible do we read, 'What seest thou?' unto His servants the prophets? They see a physical, natural object and then God goes on to reveal a spiritual truth about it. Jesus did this in His teachings and parables. Here is the truth of a dog returning to his vomit - a fool returneth to his folly. So we see the message revealed and the consequences are far beyond mere distaste of watching a dog eat its vomit. The fool, knowing that there sin reaps a huge price of wrath, destruction, death and burdens, returns to it again and again. How many times has the drunk said, 'I'll never do thsi again'; only to return to it the very next day. How many times has the drug addict said, 'I quit. never again.'
Only to right back to it by the end of the day. How many times has the soul hooked on a vice or sin, vowing to never do it again fallen right back to it? Over and over it goes, where the bind of sin holds captive the person. 'There is a sin that does beset each individual'. Each one of us has our own sin that wrestle agaisnt. Satan knows what our weaknesses are, and he exploits and attacks so craftily to get us to fall. He rejoices to see this verse happen. He works to make it happen. He loves the fool that returns to their folly. REmember, the words of David, 'The fool hath said, There is no God.' The fool is the servant of Satan. He is owned by him and kept by him.
Only by a supernatural act of redemption and Divine love does the fool break forth and cry, 'You, and You alone are God'. Such were some of us. so no matter how painful the experience, no matter how far the soul falls into sin that loses all their money, possessions, family, friends and dignity of life, they will return to the sin, because they can't stop. NOne of us can stop. this is one of my reasons for disclaiming help groups that promote humanistic victories. they overcome by their own mind set. Only God can break sin; only God can forgive sin; only the blood can cleanse sin. And if man puts their dirty hands on it, then it is vile and worthless. Men have done this all along the way in the work of salvation, redmeptions, and sanctification. And this is one of the reasons, that Christians lose ground and fall prey to sin again and again. The vices of Satan allures the flesh, and if the flesh has not be crucified as Christ taught, then Satan has a way of attacking and causing the Christian to sin and fall. you must believe the Scriptures over the works of Satan and man. 'Now unto Him that is able to keep us from falling.' He is able; do you believe this or not? The Christian that struggles and falls into sin over and over again will question this verse, and cause doubt.
