FOR THY NAME'S SAKE - Part 4 by Ernie Klassen Quicken me, O LORD, for thy names' sake: for thy righteousness' sake bring my soul out of trouble." Psalm 143:11 As we see Ezekiel's passion for the "dry bones" of Israel to "come alive", we see his passion is fueled by concern for the Lord's Name (Ezekiel 20:9; 14, 22, 44). There are 63 references in the book of Ezekiel that state "…know that I am the Lord." This repetition needs to be linked with "For My Names' Sake." God wants His Name to be sanctified. God is passionate about His glory, His Name. As His children made in His image, we too should cultivate a passion for the glory of God. This is the essence of that phrase in our Lord's prayer: "Hallowed be They Name." This is what moves the hand of God: concern for His own Name. This should become our grounds of appeal. Like Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, David, Isaiah, and Nehemiah, who all ministered in a time that contemplated exile, we do well to learn from the pray-ers and prayers of the exilic prophets. In many ways the church is in exile today. "Lord, For Thy Name's Sake, revive us again. Gain for yourself a glorious Name among the heathen."
