Knowing His Ways by Evelyn Thiessen My greatest desire is really to know the ways of God. Find in Exodus – the whole golden calf story. The Lord says to Moses "Get down from this mountain." Moses and God were having a great time. "Get down there because your people whom you brought out of Egypt have corrupted themselves." These people were a real difficulty, a stiff-necked people to both Moses and God. He came down the mountain. He sees what has gone on. Moses pleads with God and says, "Lord, why does your wrath burn hot against your people whom you brought out of Egypt?" He turns the tables on him. He asks him that question. How could Moses do that? I thought about that. Aaron was a whole different kind of person. Moses comes to him and says, "How could you do this? What did these people do to you to persuade you to make a golden calf?" And he says, "Well, you know, they gave me all their gold and silver and I just threw it in this pot and out walked this calf." That's just what it says – "Whoever has any gold let them break it off so they gave it to me and I cast it into the fire and this calf came out." I've got a little notation in my Bible and it says, "Really, Aaron!" A grown man to make a statement like that. But that's what he did. He didn't know the ways of God. He knew the acts of God. There's a big difference knowing the acts of God, and knowing the ways of God. I know the acts of many. They have served me, and have been gracious to me. They have done wonderful acts to me, but I don't know their ways. If I was in the presence of you and your husband I would observe how you were responding to me and maybe to him and then you'd make a certain gesture and something would happen. Maybe he would respond one way or another, but I missed that because I don't know your ways. Your husband knew by a certain action, and by a certain response you gave he knew exactly what you meant by that. That is my greatest desire that I would learn know God's ways. I know His acts. We see and hear about those things. It's wonderful. But I want to learn to know God so well that I know the moment something happens I know what it is that He wants me to do and how He wants me to respond. I want to learn to know His ways. I hope you do too.
