More Than Conquerors by Harold Vaughan Scripture Reading --Romans 8:37b "We are more than conquerors through him that loved us." Circumstances influence us, but they don't shape us. Our reaction to our situation, not the circumstances, makes us what we are. Have we heard people say, "I'm getting along very well under the circumstances?" The problem is that they are "under" the load, but life is much more pleasant on top! It has been said, "Circumstances are like a mattress: when we are on top, we rest in comfort; but when underneath, we are smothered." God says we are more than champions in any circumstance! India is known for its millions of Hindus. Religious festivals are frequent in that country. In some of these celebrations, Hindus load a big wagon, called a "Juggernaut," with idols. These chariots are pulled through the streets, and worshipers bow before this idolatrous procession. Some fanatical Hindus get so caught up in the ceremony that they throw themselves under the heavy wagon. The tremendous weight of the wagon smashes and kills them. Others hop on the wagon and are transported down the street. Some are crushed while others are carried by the same vehicle. Circumstances are like the Juggernaut. If we're underneath circumstances, we get crushed. But if we're on top, the Juggernaut carries us farther down the road. God has provided triumphant living for each of His children. He has called us to victory He has already bestowed upon us. Our text says, "We are more than conquerors…" It does not say we will be victorious. It says we are (present tense) conquerors. Spiritual growth is living out what we already are. If God says we are conquerors, we should act like it. We should dare to believe God! We cannot control our circumstances, but we can control how we respond to them. A proper response to difficulties will move us forward in our walk with God. Thought: God wants us to be victors, not victims; to grow, not to grovel; to soar, not to sink; to overcome, not to be overwhelmed.
