What About The Fourth? by Jerry Vander Veen So Christ once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for Him shall He appear the second time without sin unto salvation. You may never have had this question asked of you, but it is one that needs to be addressed. Before we begin, may I inform you that all of the Ten Commandments are repeated in the New Testament including Exodus 20:11. This has to be stated because there are those who are of the opinion that the Ten Commandments have no relevance to the church and our present day society. We could not be any more wrong! See I John 3:24. We know that Jesus came to fulfill the law. How then can we intentionally break what He has fulfilled for us? We are no more under the condemnation of the law due to His suffering for the laws we have broken as we are in Him See I John 3:4-6. This should lead us to worshipping Him on the day appointed, which is the first day of the week, Sunday! See Hebrew 4:7-11. Ungratefulness is expressed when we do not come back to thank Him on a regular basis. To not come and show our gratitude is the equivalent of but one of the ten lepers coming back following their healing to express their gratitude.. See Luke 17: 11-19. Perhaps if we would be reminded of the price He paid and the consequences we would have had to endure outside of our relationship with Him attained through faith, would lead us to thankfulness and faithful worship. See Ephesians 2:1-10. It is evident that our commercial society sneers at the above even as did the hard hearted Israelites. History gives us the story of their ultimate punishment. See Matthew 6:31 – 34. Is it too much for a holy God to ask that we rest and worship the one day out of seven in which He has so blessed our homes and nations? Ungratefulness has always gone before judgment See Isaiah 58:13. The Lord's Day is a friend to your health, a fundamental need for family worship and is the friend of genuine Christianity. See Proverbs 3:5-9. To say you can be Christian apart from worship in the appointed House of God shows disobedience, self-aggrandizement and lack of relationship with God. What about the fourth? It is the fourth commandment, which God instituted and observed Himself following creation and was made law due to man breaking it, Yes, Jesus has fulfilled the Law, including the broken Sabbath, which is the Christian's Lord's Day and we are to walk in obedience to it. The Lord's Day is the observance of the new creation we have in Christ's finished work on the cross. If ye love me keep my commandments. Lord Jesus, may we show thee the love of our heart by being in thy house to worship on the Lord's Day. Amen.
