Why Revival?
by Harold Peasley
Part 2
Reading: 2 Chronicles 7: 12 – 16
The question people are asking is "Why is there no revival?"
Is it because of the state of the world?
2. BECAUSE OF THE PRICE IT COSTS
"Will humble themselves"
James Stewart, one of the great writers on Revival, wrote inthe Herald of His Coming, "It is imperative that God's ministers and people recognise that revival begins when the inner temple of God is cleansed from the abomination of the saints."
"Revival is not believers going down the street beating big drums, but saints with broken hearts, sobbing their way to Calvary"
Micah 6:8 "He hath showed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God"
Isaiah 6:5 "Woe is me! for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts."
After Duncan Campbell had been used mightily in what was called the Midargyl Revival, he says he became proud, and even began to study for the ministry. This left him barren and he had nothing of the true spirit in him.
One day, his daughter of 16 years of age came to him and said "Dad I'd like to see you in your study". In his study she threw herself on his knees, as daughters often do, she put her arms around his neck and, with tears streaming down her cheeks, she said "Daddy, when you were a pilgrim in the Faith Mission after the First World War, you saw revival in
Scotland. You saw revival! Daddy, how is it that God is not using you in revival today? Tell me, Daddy, when did you last lead a soul to Christ?"
In his study he told his wife and daughter that he wasn't going out of his study until he met with God thoroughly. He shut the door, lay down on the rug in front of the fire, and began to cry to God to meet his need. God forgave him, restored him, and he cried "God, won't You give me again what You gave me on the battlefield." And he said "listen friends, God did it!"
At 2 o'clock in the morning his daughter came and lay beside him and said "Daddy, whatever it costs, go through with God" and he said "Sheena, I'm going through, whatever it may cost." He said it cost him to stand in the pulpit the following Sunday, and to make a public apology for pretending what he was in their midst. He said as a result of that, five of his officers left him because they didn't want a fool in the pulpit! But then God began His revival by subtractions before additions. And it was then that God worked in a mighty way in the congregation.
