There are Three Things that Amaze Me - Proverbs 30:18-33

Today is Day 551 of our trek, and it is Wisdom Wednesday. Every Wednesday along life’s trails we dig for the nuggets of wisdom that are found within the book of Proverbs. Today we will explore the 2nd half of Chapter 30. 
 
We are broadcasting from our studio at The Big House in Marietta, Ohio. After nearly three weeks of constant travel, I am in our office most of this week before heading to Charlotte for three days. After that, I should be in for two weeks before heading to Arizona towards the end of March. 
 
Last week in our study of Proverbs, we switched focus from King Solomon who wrote most of Proverbs to a man we know little of whose name was Agur. In some translations it indicates that Agur was writing “to Ithiel and Ucal,” men who could have been disciples or friends of Agur, although some Bibles translate the meaning of the two names with the assumption that they do not refer to actual people. Most commentators believe Agur lived in the same era as Solomon. We don’t know much about Agur except what we can glean from this one chapter. This is one of my favorite chapters in Proverbs because of its rich imagery and contrasting statements. 
 
The name Agur comes from a Hebrew word meaning “collector.” Agur and his father Jakeh are only mentioned here in the Bible and are otherwise unknown. As we start with verse 18 today, Agur’s talent for relating to the obvious shines through. It is a Hebrew poetic style comparing similar statements for impact. This section starts out with… 
There Are Three Things That Amaze Me 
Let’s dig for the nuggets of wisdom today that Agur shares in verses 18-33. 
18 There are three things that amaze me— 
no, four things that I don’t understand: 
19 how an eagle glides through the sky, 
how a snake slithers on a rock, 
how a ship navigates the ocean, 
how a man loves a woman. 
While we have made significant advancements in our scientific knowledge of the first three items that are listed, they still are an amazement to us. To witness the eagle in flight floating on the winds, the snake slithering on a rock at angles we could never achieve, and a large ship navigating the largest oceans, leaves us in awe. 
 
A greater mystery in life is what causes the attraction between a man and a woman. Many times the physical and emotional differences between couples are so different that we wonder what chemistry caused the attraction in the first place. All four of these references leave us standing in amazement. 
 
 
20 An adulterous woman consumes a man, 
then wipes her mouth and says, “What’s wrong with that?” 
Another one of life’s mysteries that can leave us pondering is an illicit affair between people who are married to others. Those that are involved in such activity appear oblivious to the dangers. It is a situation that will never end well and causes such hurt and grief to all that are involved. 
 
 
21 There are three things that make the earth tremble— 
no, four it cannot endure: 
22 a slave who becomes a king, 
an overbearing fool who prospers, 
23     a bitter woman who finally gets a husband, 
a servant girl who supplants her mistress. 
Here is another analogy that compares, contrasts, and then adds a fourth element for emphasis. Three things that shake our very paradigm of our world…A slave who rises to the position of king is an unusual occurrence but has happened on occasion. A person who is obnoxious and treats others unkindly and yet seems to prosper in life.

On Wisdom-Trek Day 537 we explored the concept of how we can do better at listening. We need to listen to learn. Anytime we are speaking, we cannot be learning, and verse 20 of this passage reminds us that if a person speaks without thinking… 
There Is More Hope for a Fool 
Let’s start our trek as we explore verses 15-27. 
These are More Proverbs of Solomon recorded by King Hezekiah. 
15 To discipline a child produces wisdom, 
but a mother is disgraced by an undisciplined child. 
Most of us think of discipline in a negative connotation. It definitely does not need to be. The root of discipline means to disciple or mentor another person. Children and even adults need to be a disciple throughout their lives. A parent is neglecting his or her children if he or she does not discipline them because that is how they learn and gain wisdom. Otherwise, they will disgrace themselves and their parents. 
 
 
 
16 When the wicked are in authority, sin flourishes, 
but the godly will live to see their downfall. 
This is so evident in a nation, in businesses, in organizations, in schools, and even in families. When they are led by a person without integrity, then bad practices and wicked deeds will flourish. If we have integrity, do what is correct, and follow God’s precepts, then we will see victory over those who do not. 
 
 
17 Discipline your children, and they will give you peace of mind 
and will make your heart glad. 
This is the same concept as verse 15. We as parents and grandparents need to actively disciple and mentor those whom we influence. When they learn the lessons, it will bring peace of mind and a glad heart to all. 
 
 
18 When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild. 
But whoever obeys the law is joyful. 
Whether as children or adults, if they do not accept the lessons that are being taught there will be chaos, heartbreak, and anger. Those who do learn the lessons will have joy. 
 
 
19 Words alone will not discipline a servant; 
the words may be understood, but they are not heeded. 
As part of discipline and mentoring we just cannot tell someone, we must actively show them both through lessons and examples. It is one thing to have “head knowledge” about a matter, quite different to have a working “hands on” knowledge. 
 
 
20 There is more hope for a fool 
than for someone who speaks without thinking. 
We all fall victim at times to engaging our tongue without engaging our brain. When we do this, what spews out of our mouth is not good. If we continually make this a habit, then we become a fool, and a fool that is without hope. 
 
 
 
21 A servant pampered from childhood 
will become a rebel. 
Everyone needs to be disciplined as part of their training. Whether it is a servant, employee, or child if we do not have discipline in our lives, we will rebel and do that which is foolish.

We are broadcasting from our studio at The Big House in Marietta, Ohio. This past weekend we had our delayed Chamberlain Christmas celebration with our 5 kids, their spouses, and 6 grandkids. We had a blessed time sharing life and a few gifts. Paula made each couple a “picnic quilt” and neatly folded and placed it in a picnic basket. They all looked beautiful, and the kids really appreciated them. 
 
Of course, the time we invested with all of our grandkids was extra special. This season of life where we are friends and mentors to our grown children is rewarding. We are always open to what they are learning and experiencing so that we can continue to grow in wisdom, insight, and understanding. This reminds me of verse 17 of our passage today, which says… 
As Iron Sharpens Iron 
Let’s start our trek, as we explore verses 15-27. 
More Proverbs of Solomon 
15 A quarrelsome wife is as annoying 
as constant dripping on a rainy day. 
16 Stopping her complaints is like trying to stop the wind 
or trying to hold something with greased hands. 
It is difficult being around a person who enjoys arguing and complaining. This is especially true in a marriage situation where you cannot walk away from or avoid your spouse. If you have a spouse who is prone to complaining and arguing, gently over time encourage them to change their attitude for the benefit and preservation of your marriage. While you can encourage them to change, it must be their decision, since it is impossible for us to change someone else. If you attempt to change them, it is like a constant dripping or holding onto something with greased hands, no matter how much you try, the results are not effective. One note of caution, check yourself to make sure you are not a person who argues or complains. 
 
 
17 As iron sharpens iron, 
so a friend sharpens a friend. 
To sharpen a knife or ax, many times the tool used to sharpen the other tool is made of the same materials. In the same way, the best way to improve and grow is to be part of a peer group or mastermind where it is the intent to help each other grow, improve, and mature. This requires loving honesty with each other for your mutual benefit. 
 
 
 
 
18 As workers who tend a fig tree are allowed to eat the fruit, 
so workers who protect their employer’s interests will be rewarded. 
A farmer who grows and takes care of the crops is rewarded by being able to consume part of what is grown. In the same manner, a good worker should be rewarded for helping the business owner to be profitable. This is why I personally favor compensation based on overall performance and tied to the profitability of the business. 
 
 
19 As a face is reflected in water, 
so the heart reflects the real person. 
Water or a mirror will show you what you really look like instead of what you may picture in your mind. In the same way, your talk and actions will reflect the person you truly are, regardless of what you attempt to show to others. 
 
 
20 Just as Death and Destruction are never satisfied, 
so human desire is never satisfied. 
Death will come to us all eventually, there is no way to prevent it. A wildfire will continue its destruction as long as there is fuel to consume. In the same way,

Every Wednesday along life’s trails, we dig for the nuggets of wisdom that are found within the book of Proverbs. Today we will explore the 2nd half of Chapter 26. 
 
We are broadcasting from our studio at The Big House in Marietta, Ohio. 2017 has begun. Paula and I invested several hours in planning, preparing, and setting goals for this New Year and are excited to see how God moves within our lives and for the opportunity to positively impact the lives of many people. Even with this planning, which is very important, we also realize that what we do on a daily basis, which most of the time is not exciting, will determine the success we have during this year. 
 
Most days will be mundane and considered boring. We do not live extravagant lives and are fairly common people. We do understand, though, that success consists of doing the common things of life uncommonly well. Our prayer and hope is that when 2017 ends, we can look back with satisfaction and say each day was lived well. If we live each day well, then the entire year will be successful overall. 
 
On our trek for today, we will explore several examples of how not to live. It is important to know this, so that we can avoid these situations and habits. One of those bad habits is lying to others. As verse 28 tells us... 
A Lying Tongue Hates Its Victims 
Let’s start our trek as we explore verses 15-28. 
More Proverbs of Solomon 
15 Lazy people take food in their hand 
but don’t even lift it to their mouth. 
A person who is habitually lazy feels a sense of entitlement. He feels that the world owes him something, or everything. To show the extreme of his laziness, this verse uses a word picture of a lazy person who took hold of something to eat, but was so lazy he would not lift the food to his mouth. 
 
 
 
 
16 Lazy people consider themselves smarter 
than seven wise counselors. 
Laziness and foolishness go hand in glove. A foolish, lazy person feels that he is so smart that he has no need of advice from others. Even if he meets the wisest people alive, he would refuse their wisdom, because he is too lazy to implement their suggestions for improvement. 
 
 
17 Interfering in someone else’s argument 
is as foolish as yanking a dog’s ears. 
When you observe someone else in a discussion or argument, it would be best to avoid getting involved. Even if you feel that you have a solution to their problems or an answer to their arguments. The analogy is how foolish it would be to yank the ears of a mad dog. The only thing that will happen is that you will get bitten physically or verbally when interfering in someone else’s argument. 
 
 
18 Just as damaging 
as a madman shooting a deadly weapon 
19 is someone who lies to a friend 
and then says, “I was only joking.” 
Lying is never wise, especially to those you consider friends, even when said in jest. The result will be the killing of your friendship. The damage will be no less than if it was with physical weapons. 
 
 
20 Fire goes out without wood, 
and quarrels disappear when gossip stops. 
Just like a fire needs a continual supply of wood to keep it going, quarrels will usually continue when there is a continual supply of gossip. The best way to end quarrels is to stop fueling them with lies, deceptions of gossip. Be kind and honest at all times.

For today’s Trek, we will explore verses 15-23 of the 5th chapter of Proverbs. There is nothing more pure or holy than the appropriate physical relationship between a husband and wife within the boundary of marriage. Let us start with verses 15-17.

This is especially true during the night when an entirely new set of sounds emerge. We need to practice listening to what is important. As we are listening, it provides us with the opportunity to consider the words of the woman called Wisdom and Understanding in chapter 8 and 9. The title of this section is…

In verse 1, there are not two women. Wisdom is one woman, but she has two names. Her names are Wisdom and Understanding. This is because wisdom is the same thing as understanding. Right decisions and accurate knowledge are also an indication of wisdom. 
 
Wisdom ultimately comes from God, but it does not come immediately. We need to learn to be wise. This is a slow process. Each day, we should learn new lessons. God teaches us in different ways. Sometimes he teaches us from the Bible. Sometimes he uses other people to teach us. Sometimes he uses life’s experiences, nature or other methods to teach us. This concept is the entire premise for Wisdom-Trek.

We are told that he lacks common sense, and certainly he is thinking with his body and not his mind… But, he still has a choice. Does he stay, or does he flee? Hiding Hatred - Proverbs 10:18-22 
 
18Hiding hatred makes you a liar; 
slandering others makes you a fool. 
 
You might ask, how does hiding hatred make you a liar? I think we all know people that are nice to our face, but we know that they really dislike us. We may do the same thing to others. So how do we make sure that we do not continue this habit ourselves? Frist, we should forgive other people. Even when someone hurts us, we should not hate that person. Instead, we should pray for them. 
 
If we truly do dislike or hate a person, but are nice to them to their face, then we are a liar. When we hate another person, we are really destroying and enslaving ourselves. We are controlled and trapped by our internal hatred. We need to learn to let it go, to forgive, even if they don’t ask for it or deserve it. To forgive is to set ourselves free. Christ certainly forgave us even though we do not deserve it. Closely related to this is when we slander others. Slandering others really does make us a fool. Anyone who hears your slander will realize that they are probably the target of it when they are not around. We need to stop gossiping and talking ill about others. We should encourage and build them up.

Hiding Hatred - Proverbs 10:18-22

18Hiding hatred makes you a liar;
slandering others makes you a fool.

You might ask, how does hiding hatred make you a liar?  I think we all know people that are nice to our face, but we know that they really dislike us.  We may do the same thing to others.   So how do we make sure that we do not continue this habit ourselves?   Frist, we should forgive other people. Even when someone hurts us, we should not hate that person. Instead, we should pray for them.

If we truly do dislike or hate a person, but are nice to them to their face, then we are a liar.  When we hate another person, we are really destroying and enslaving ourselves. We are recording our podcast from our studio at ‘Home2’ in Charlotte, NC.  Within our heavy work schedule, we are carving some time out for our Wisdom-Trek projects.  We will be releasing ‘Your Life Plan Blueprint and Wisdom-Trek Journal Volume 1 soon. Although it is taking longer than hoped, I want to keep mentioning it to hold us accountable to complete this phase of the task as soon as feasible. 
 
Let’s move onto our trek and visualize today as we remain in camp sitting around the campfire watching the flames and listening crackling of the wood as it burns.  Campfires are a great setting for telling and listening to stories.  For our story today, let’s transport ourselves back to ancient Jerusalem during the reign of King Solomon.  We are just outside of the gates of the city and we hear the proclamation from the lawyer called Wisdom.  Let’s pay attention as she presents her case taken from Proverbs Chapter 8 which is titled: 
 
 
Wisdom Calls for a Hearing 
This is the second of Solomon’s three great poems. We all will do well to listen to what she has to say as she sets up her case in Chapter 8:6-11 
 
6 Listen to me! For I have important things to tell you. 
Everything I say is right, 
7 for I speak the truth 
and detest every kind of deception. 
8 My advice is wholesome. 
There is nothing devious or crooked in it. 
9 My words are plain to anyone with understanding, 
    clear to those with knowledge. 
10 Choose my instruction rather than silver, 
    and knowledge rather than pure gold. 
11 For wisdom is far more valuable than rubies. 
Nothing you desire can compare with it. 
 
Let’s take a seat at the city gates of Jerusalem and the lawyer Wisdom begins her testimony. As a judge would instruct the jury or courtroom, starting in verse 6, we are instructed to listen to the woman called Wisdom for she has important things to tell us. 
 
She lays out her case by informing us that everything she has to tell us is right and she speaks the truth.  This is because she detest any kind of deception. Since her advice is wholesome, we can be sure that there is nothing deceitful or wrong with her testimony 
 
To make sure that we fully understand she uses easy to understand language and not legalese. If we have a moral compass within us, her words will be clear. 
 
 
 
God uses the Bible to teach us. The Bible is the Word of God.  Psalms 19:7-8 tells us: 
 
7 The instructions of the Lord are perfect, 
    reviving the soul. 
The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, 
    making wise the simple. 
8 The commandments of the Lord are right, 
    bringing joy to the heart. 
The commands of the Lord are clear, 
    giving insight for living.

We are recording our podcast from our studio at Home2 in Charlotte, North Carolina. It has been a rainy couple of days for us with some localized flooding. In addition to our usual client workload, we are working on the final formatting and proofing of Volume 1 of the Wisdom-Trek Journal. The first volume will provide us a guideline and template for the other volumes, so hopefully creating subsequent volumes will be much quicker. Our objective is to produce a volume for each month. So far we have completed 8 months of Wisdom-Trek. 
 
As mentioned on previous days, Paula and I are also refining all of these daily concepts along with worksheets for Your Life Plan Blueprint, which we covered in January, into an easy-to-use workbook. I will let you know when these projects are complete so that you can download them. 
 
 
 
Today we remain at camp sitting around the campfire, far away from lights and the noise of our everyday life, which provides an opportunity to relax and listen to the sounds of the woods. This is especially true during the night when an entirely new set of sounds emerge. We need to practice listening to what is important. As we are listening, it provides us with the opportunity to consider the words of the woman called Wisdom and Understanding in chapter 8 and 9.  The title of this section is… 
Wisdom Calls for a Hearing 
This is the second of Solomon’s three great poems. Wisdom, represented as a woman, gives a speech to all the people. We all will do well to listen to what she has to say. Let’s begin with Proverbs 8:1-5. 
 
1 Listen as Wisdom calls out! 
    Hear as understanding raises her voice! 
2 On the hilltop along the road, 
    she takes her stand at the crossroads. 
3 By the gates at the entrance to the town, 
    on the road leading in, she cries aloud, 
4 “I call to you, to all of you! 
    I raise my voice to all people. 
5 You, simple people, use good judgment. 
    You, foolish people, show some understanding. 
 
 
 
In verse 1, there are not two women. Wisdom is one woman, but she has two names. Her names are Wisdom and Understanding. This is because wisdom is the same thing as understanding. Right decisions and accurate knowledge are also an indication of wisdom. 
 
Wisdom ultimately comes from God, but it does not come immediately. We need to learn to be wise. This is a slow process. Each day, we should learn new lessons. God teaches us in different ways. Sometimes he teaches us from the Bible. Sometimes he uses other people to teach us. Sometimes he uses life’s experiences, nature or other methods to teach us.

We are recording our podcast from our studio at ‘Home2’ in Charlotte, NC.  The hours each day just fly by and before I realize how much time has passed it is time for me to make dinner.  Dinner preparations is a time for me to sort of wind down from the day.  I really enjoy preparing dinner, and we do strive to eat healthy each day.  It is part of our overall life plan to remain physically, mentally and spiritually fit for a long time into the future.  It does take consistent persistence, as we pursue our life purpose to be a difference maker in our world.  We had our son Fred over for dinner Tuesday evening and it was a good time to get caught up with his daily life and routines. 
  
Let’s now return to camp for a time of sharing and telling stories around the campfire.   The fire dancing off the logs is mesmerizing to me and it is easy to get lost in my thoughts.  As the flames reach for the sky, and the smoke is blown back and forth in the light breeze, it reminds me of the story that we will continue with today from Proverbs Chapter 7. 
 
The title of the story we began 3 days ago is: 
Another Warning about Immoral Women 
Yesterday we left off on our story about a simple, naïve young man, who finds himself in the embrace of a beautiful woman who is very convincing.  She is dressed seductively and tells this young man that she has prepared her bed specifically just for him.  The young man finds himself in this situation because of the choices that he made earlier that evening.  He may be thinking, that this is where he really desires to be.  We are told that he lacks common sense, and certainly he is thinking with his body and not his mind… but he still has a choice.  Does he stay, or will he flee?   Let’s continue on to see how the story unfolds in Chapter 7:21–27.  I will break this passage into two sections. 
·       Chapter 7 
Unfortunately, he does not flee as we continue in verse 21-23 
 
21 So she seduced him with her pretty speech 
    and enticed him with her flattery. 
22 He followed her at once, 
    like an ox going to the slaughter. 
He was like a stag caught in a trap, 
23     awaiting the arrow that would pierce its heart. 
He was like a bird flying into a snare, 
    little knowing it would cost him his life. 
 
We see that the naïve young man chose to remain.  Her seductive, pretty speech was more than he felt he could resist.  She enticed him with flattery where he thought that he was really something special in her eyes.  This reminds me of Proverbs 5:3 For the lips of an immoral woman are as sweet as honey, and her mouth is smoother than oil.  She appeared to be both sweet and smooth.

If our plans do not change, Paula and I plan to head to Biltmore Mansion in Asheville, NC on Saturday for our annual Christmas visit.  Biltmore is America’s largest home and with its 250 rooms is magnificent to visit any time of the year, but when it is decorated for Christmas, it is a site to behold.  We do look forward to these short excursions that we are able to take, even with a busy schedule.  As I continually try to learn to be a good and wise husband, I am still learning the importance of these times away from our work, to spend with each other. 
 
 
 
  
 
We will remain at camp for another day as we finish up Proverbs chapter 6 digging deep for additional nuggets of wisdom that we can digest.  As we accumulate this wisdom, it helps us to create that living legacy each day so we can impact our world throughout eternity.  Never underestimate the value that you bring into the world with just a single act of kindness.

We are recording our podcast from our studio at ‘Home2’ in Charlotte, NC.   I know that Christmas is close when I make my world famous caramel corn.  At least it is famous in my little world.  I made 12 batches total with some batches including either pecans, almonds, or walnuts. We give most of it away to siblings and neighbors, but do keep some of the delicious, mouthwatering treats for ourselves.  I will include pictures in today’s journal of a couple of the huge walnut bowls where I place the finished product. 
 
 
 
It is great to have traditions in our lives which are part of the living legacy.  I know that our grown kids will be looking forward to some fresh batches of caramel corn when we celebrate Christmas with them on January 9th.  They won’t be disappointed. 
 
As we remain in camp for this week in our study of the Proverbs chapter 6, it reminds me of several years where Paula and I took our kids, and usually many of their friends and church youth groups for a week of primitive camping at a music festival in the hills of Pennsylvania called Creation Fest.  We all have many fond memories of our times there.  It is my hope that you and I are forming those fond memories and friendships as we share each day together on our Wisdom-Trek. 
 
 
 
Let’s get started for today and dig for more nuggets of wisdom as we explore Proverbs Chapter 6:20-29 – this chapter in Proverbs is referred to as: 
Lessons for Daily Life 
Today I will read the entire passage and then we will break it down into small segments as we dive deeper into our exploration: 
 
20 My son, obey your father’s commands, 
and don’t neglect your mother’s instruction. 
21 Keep their words always in your heart. 
Tie them around your neck. 
22 When you walk, their counsel will lead you. 
When you sleep, they will protect you. 
When you wake up, they will advise you. 
23 For their command is a lamp 
and their instruction a light; 
their corrective discipline 
is the way to life. 
24 It will keep you from the immoral woman, 
from the smooth tongue of a promiscuous woman. 
25 Don’t lust for her beauty. 
Don’t let her coy glances seduce you. 
26 For a prostitute will bring you to poverty, 
but sleeping with another man’s wife will cost you your life. 
27 Can a man scoop a flame into his lap 
and not have his clothes catch on fire? 
28 Can he walk on hot coals 
and not blister his feet? 
29 So it is with the man who sleeps with another man’s wife. 
He who embraces her will not go unpunished.

We should love wisdom. Wisdom should be in our hearts and in our minds. We keep wisdom in our minds or hearts by constantly being aware of the choices that we make. Wisdom should be so evident in our lives, it would be as if we are wearing a very noticeable necklace. We should always live in a wise manner.

We are recording our podcast from our studio at ‘Home2’ in Charlotte, NC.   Friday evening Paula and I had the privilege of watching a live performance of Charles Dickens ‘A Christmas Carol’ put on by the Intune School of Arts.  The acting and singing were excellent.  They also had a short gospel message at the end, which tied in well with the storyline of the play. 
 
 
 
Today and throughout this next week, we will remain in camp and dig through Proverbs chapter 6 for nuggets of wisdom.  As if we were digging for real gold, the lessons learned may be difficult, and we will soon find out that all of us have dirty hands, and mud caked under our fingernails.  We will also learn, though, how we can wash that dirt away and be completely clean.  Proverbs Chapter 6 is referred to as: 
  
  
Lessons for Daily Life 
Today we will dig through Verses 1-5 – let’s first look at Verses 1-2 
 
1 My child, if you have put up security for a friend’s debt 
or agreed to guarantee the debt of a stranger— 
2 if you have trapped yourself by your agreement 
and are caught by what you said— 
 
In this poem, Solomon compares our mistakes to a hunter’s trap. When a hunter works, he may build traps. He hides his traps so that animals will not see them. He hopes that the animals will fall into his traps. Then he can kill and eat the animals. 
 
In our lives, our mistakes can be like traps. Perhaps we want to do the right thing. Perhaps our plans are good. But our best plans could fail. Then, like a trap, our plans can destroy us. 
 
 
 
This passage specifically refers to co-signing on the debt for another person. In verse 1, Solomon’s son had good intentions. He wanted to help his friend because his friend did not have good credit to borrow money on his own. The son trusted the friend. The son tried to do the right thing, but in the end, the friend was unable to pay.  In the agreement, Solomon’s son promised to pay if his friend could not.  The lender now expects Solomon’s son to pay. The son’s plan failed and now he is in danger. 
 
 
 
Sometimes we place ourselves in danger. Our own choices can become like traps, even when they seem so harmless at first.  In today’s society, many people suffer from all sorts of addictions.  This could be alcohol, dangerous drugs, pornography, sex outside of marriage, or even foods.  Originally, you just want to enjoy yourself, even if you realize that it is outside of God’s precepts. Once addicted to the substance or behavior, when you try to stop, you will fail. Now you must turn back to God and ask Him to help you. God is greater than all addictions, of course, and he can free you from those addictions, but we still may suffer some of the physical, emotional and spiritual consequences.  As you ask God to free you from the traps that you may find yourself in,
