ISRAEL’S UNBELIEF ROMANS 9:1-5 
INTRODUCTION: 
This morning we are beginning a new section of Romans and a 
very fascinating one. Romans 9-11 is filled with essential and practical doctrine as it focuses on Israel as God’s chosen people. In theses three chapters Paul shows us that Israel has been temporarily set aside by God because of her unrepentance and unbelief and above all else her rejection of the Messiah. But God is not yet finished with Israel and in the end times He will begin to deal with her again. Chapter 9 begins focusing on Israel’s unbelief and the sorrow and grief that brings to the apostle Paul. 
I. PAUL’S HEART FOR THE JEWS (Romans 9:1-3) 
a. As we begin this passage devoted to the nation of Israel in these opening verses we learn of Paul’s own grief over the 
_______________ of his own people. 
b. Remember earlier in Paul’s life he was a great _____________ 
of those Jews who were followers of Christ. 
c. With as much hatred as the Jews had for Paul, the feeling was 
not mutual, Paul had a deep _______ for Israel as a nation, and 
also for Israelites as individuals, after all these were his people. 
d. Paul begins by writing, “I am telling the __________ in Christ, 
I am not lying...” (Romans 9:1a, NASB95) 
e. Paul calls upon another witness to his truthfulness, he writes, 
“...my conscience testifies with me in the ________ ________, that I have great sorrow and unceasing grief in my heart.” (Romans 9:1b-2, NASB95) 
f. Paul calls upon two reliable _______________ to attest to him truthfulness. 
g. It is only in verse three that we truly see the depth of Paul’s ________ for his fellow Jews, how truly great his sorrow and unceasing his grief was for their unbelief. (Exodus 32:32) 
II. ISRAEL’S BLESSINGS AS GOD’S PEOPLE (Romans 9:4-5) 
a. As we move on into verses 4-5, we see that Paul’s great sorrow over Israel’s unbelief is in part due to fact of the great _____________ that Israel has received from God because they are God’s chosen nation. 
b. First, they are blessed because they are ________________. 
c. Second, Paul writes that it is the Israelites to whom belongs the 
adoption as ________. (Exodus 4:22; Hosea 11:1) 
d. Third, Paul says that Israel received the blessing of the

CONCLUSION: 
Paul in these opening verses of chapter 9 sets the stage for this 
chapter and the next two after it. In these verses he shows us that tragic unbelief of his people, the Jews, that they had their Messiah, God Himself in the flesh and they rejected Him. Paul’s heart is grieved by this unbelief, his heart is grieved as God’s heart is grieved. He loves his people and desires them to understand the grace that is offered to them through the death of Jesus Christ and the hope that can be theirs because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. 
What can we take away from this message? Paul’s love for his Jewish brothers and sisters according to the flesh was not just because 
 
he was related to them, his love for them was because of God’s love for them. As we draw closer to the Lord, as we get to know Him better as we read His Word and spend time with Him in prayer His heart will become our heart. We will begin to feel great sorrow and have unceasing grief for the unsaved. This burden for the unsaved does not come on you suddenly, but it is a burden that grows on your heart. I am sure that Paul spent many hours on his knees praying to God for Israel. Oh, that God would put on your heart and mine a burden, a compassion, a tenderness for lost men, women, and children that they would be saved. Pray for your unsaved loved ones, your kinsmen according to the flesh, pray for your unsaved neighbors, unsaved friends, but understand that when you begin to pray for them you must be willing to be used by God to be a witness to them and tell the story of redemption, how Jesus Christ came to this earth and went to the cross and died for us, paid the penalty for our sin and was buried and on the third day rose from the dead proving that sin had been paid for in full and death was forever conquered, guaranteeing for those who put their faith in Jesus Christ forgiveness of sins, justification before God, and eternal life. Be willing to share this good news

A MOTHER OF EXCELLENCE PROVERBS 31:10-31 
INTRODUCTION: 
Happy Mother’s Day to all our mothers. Today is the day we set 
aside to honor our mothers, to celebrate our mothers. This is good, but it should not just be for one day a year, we need to honor our mothers every day and appreciate them and show our gratitude for all they do. 
This morning I want to look at a passage of Scripture that describes a mother of excellence. It is an important passage for us all as we each should desire to excel in our God-given gifts and talents. This passage will teach men what kind of woman they should seek for a wife and the mother of their children. This passage gives ladies a standard of excellence to strive for so that they can be the wife and mother that God wants them to be. 
a. Again, we read of the excellent wife’s husband, because of her capability of managing the home, because of the good that she does for her husband, he is able to _____ at the city gates and he is respected and has a seat among the elders who govern the city. (1 Peter 3:1-4) 
b. The excellent wife and mother is not a nagging wife, but rather is one who _________ her husband and seeks to encourage him in all that he does. 
IV. A MOTHER’S PIETY (Proverbs 31:27-31) 
a. Maybe as we have gone through this passage you have asked 
yourself, what is the __________ of this woman’s excellent 
character? 
b. The author has saved that information for the last couple of 
verses and it has to do with this woman’s __________. 
c. Notice verse 30, “Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, But a 
woman who __________ the LORD, she shall be praised.” 
(Proverbs 31:30, NASB95) 
d. This reverence for God, this pious living causes this woman to 
watch over the affairs of her household trusting in God and not _____________ her time in idleness. 
V. RESULTS (Proverbs 31:28-29, 31) 
a. In verses 28-29 and verse 31 we are told what our __________ 
is to be as husbands and children of this woman of excellent 
character. 
b. Children, Proverbs 31:28 says that you are to rise up and call

Wives and mothers, you have quite a passage of Scripture to 
live up to if you are to be the woman of excellence described here and

it begins by faith in Jesus Christ. You cannot begin to be this type of woman unless you have been transformed by the redeeming of work of Jesus Christ. You must deal with the sin in your life before you can be the woman described here. The only way to deal with sin is to agree with God that you are a helpless sinner with no way to make yourself right before God, but you believe that Jesus Christ can make you right before God, that His death on the cross paid the penalty for sin and that he was buried and rose from the dead on the third day showing by His resurrection that sin was fully paid for and death was conquered. When you believe this your sins are forgiven and you are made new in Christ and declared righteous before God and the Holy Spirit comes in and dwells in you and through His power in your life you can become the wife and mother described in this passage of Scripture. 
Husbands and children, we have a huge responsibility given to us in this passage to be supportive and thankful and to honor the wives and mothers God has given to us and not just on Mother’s Day, but every day of the year. Again, Happy Mother’s Day to all our mothers!

OUR ULTIMATE SECURITY – PART 2 ROMANS 8:31-39 
INTRODUCTION: 
We are looking at the concluding remarks on what Paul has written 
in this chapter. He is driving home his underlying theme of this whole chapter that our salvation is eternally secure. He is doing this with a series of questions and answers that will remove any fear of doubt that someone or something could cause a believer to lose or forfeit his or her salvation. He does this by showing that God’s eternal love for us and Christ’s eternal love for us is what eternally secures our salvation. 
Last Sunday we looked at the first five questions and answers that focused on the love of God the Father for us that secures our salvation. This morning we will look at the last two questions and answer and the concluding words of Paul, this part focuses on the love of God the Son for us. 
THE LOVE OF GOD THE SON (Romans 8:35-39) 
I. QUESTIONS 6 AND 7 – WHAT CAN SEPARATE US (Romans 8:35-36) 
a. Paul had clearly established in the first five questions of this passage that ____ _______, not any person can take away or cause us to forfeit our salvation. 
b. Paul writes, “Who will ________________ us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Just as it is written, ‘FOR YOUR SAKE WE ARE BEING PUT TO DEATH ALL DAY LONG; WE WERE CONSIDERED AS SHEEP TO BE SLAUGHTERED.’” (Romans 8:35–36, NASB95) 
c. Again, it must be remembered that our salvation is not a product of our own _________ but is entirely the work of God in us by His grace. (1 John 4:19) 
d. Paul then asks in the seventh question if any of the circumstance that he lists can separate us from Christ’s _________ for us. 
e. Paul understood these threatening circumstances from ____________ from them personally. (2 Corinthians 11:23-27)

II. THE ANSWER – WE ARE CONQUERORS IN CHRIST (Romans 8:37) 
a. Only the true believer _______________ and this only because he has the power of God’s indwelling Spirit. 
b. This phrase “overwhelmingly _________” is a compound word in Greek that literally means to hyper-conquer or over-conquer. (2 Corinthians 4:17) 
III. CONCLUSION – NOTHING CAN SEPARATE US (Romans 8:38-39) 
a. The concluding words of Paul in this chapter is a beautiful _____________ of what he has just said. 
b. Paul wants to assure his readers that what he has taught them he himself is fully ______________ that it is true. 
c. Paul then begins to list what he is convinced cannot _________________ us from God’s love for us in Christ. 
d. God _____________ our salvation in eternity past and Christ’s love shown through His substitutionary atonement for us ___________ it in the present and all future time and throughout all eternity. 
CONCLUSION: 
Take great comfort in Paul’s words, rest assured that your 
salvation is eternally secure in Christ’s love. Do you ever have to fear losing or forfeiting your salvation? No, Paul has made it abundantly 
 
clear in this chapter that what God has set in motion in eternity past when He chose you by His foreknowledge He will carry to completion in eternity future and that eternal security is assured because of the love of God the Father for us and the love of God the Son for us. Brothers and Sisters in Christ, you never need to doubt your eternal security, it is assured because it is secure in the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

GOD’S PURPOSE – PART 2 ROMANS 8:29-30 
INTRODUCTION: 
These two verses teach us the purpose for which we have been 
called and give us the progression of salvation from God’s perspective. His purpose for calling us is two-fold, first, to conform us to the image of His Son but His primary purpose is that His Son would have preeminence among those called by God for salvation. God supreme purpose is to glorify the Son. 
The progression of salvation is like a chain of five links with each part connecting to the next part. The five parts are: foreknowledge, predestination, calling, justification, and glorification. We have already looked at foreknowledge which means to predetermine or foreordain but it also has attached to it the knowledge of predetermined relationship, foreknowledge is based on love. God has a predetermined love for those whom He has predetermined to save. Let’s look at the other four links in the progression of salvation. 
I. PREDESTINATION (Romans 8:29b) 
a. The second part or link in the chain of salvation is 
____________________. (Acts 4:27-28) 
b. What was God’s predetermined ___________ for Jesus Christ? 
That He would die for mankind. 
c. Let’s look at what the believer chosen by the foreknowledge of 
God is ______________ to: 
1. Predestined to be ________________ to the image of 
God’s Son. (Romans 8:29) 
2. Predestined to ______________ as sons through Jesus 
Christ to Himself. (Ephesians 1:4-5)

II. CALLING (Romans 8:30a) 
a. Paul goes on in verse 30 to give us the next link in the chain of

IV. GLORIFICATION (Romans 8:30c) 
a. The last link in the chain of salvation is linked to justification

b. If you have not noticed, but glorification or our future _______ 
is a recurring theme in the book of Romans. (Romans 5:1-2; 
8:18, 21; 2 Thessalonians 2:14)

CONCLUSION: 
Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 2:10, “For this reason I endure all 
things for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus and with it eternal glory.” (2 Timothy 2:10, NASB95) This morning we have looked at the chain of salvation, or the progression of salvation from God’s point of view. God is the one who carries out each of these links of salvation, and He will complete the whole chain, and no one can undo what God has done. The One who chose us in eternity past and predetermined our destiny and called us to Himself and declared us right with Him will bring our salvation to completion when He glorifies us. Do we understand all this and how God works? No, but we believe it because the Bible teaches it and we believe that God’s Word recorded for us in infallible and inerrant and we rejoice in our salvation knowing that it is completely and only a work of God in us, and He who saved us will keep us saved and bring our salvation to completion. Our eternal security is in the faithfulness of God.

THE RESURRECTION: HOW IMPORTANT IS IT? 1 CORINTHIANS 15:1-8 
INTRODUCTION: 
This is possibly the strangest Easter that any of us have ever 
celebrated. But our circumstances do not change the fact that on this day we celebrate the greatest event in all of history, the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. The tomb is empty, and the Lord of Glory is risen! Hallelujah! 
These are the two facts that we celebrate on Easter morning, we have heard Luke’s record of this event, but why is the empty tomb and the resurrection so important? What do they mean to us? How important is it? We are going to explore those questions this morning. 
I. THE GOSPEL OF SALVATION (1 Corinthians 15:1-2) 
a. Paul begins this passage to the church in Corinth by stating that he wants to remind them of the ______________ which he had 
shared with them. 
b. Paul had spent two years in Corinth teaching the Corinthians 
the Gospel and all that had been _______________ to him by God, the Holy Spirit. 
II. THE GOSPEL EXPLAINED (1 Corinthians 15:3-4) 
a. Paul then goes on to remind his readers what the Gospel was 
that he _____________ to them. 
b. 1. “...that Christ ____________ for our sins according to the 
Scriptures...” (1 Corinthians 15:3b, NASB95) (Isaiah 53:4-6)

III. THE EYE-WITNESS PROOF OF THE RESURRECTION (1 Corinthians 15:5-8) 
a. The proof of the empty tomb and the resurrection of the Lord

CONCLUSION: 
Why is the resurrection important for us today? It is the 
resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ that makes forgiveness of sins, reconciliation with God and justification possible. If Jesus had not been raised from the dead, there would be no salvation. His resurrection is the proof that Jesus was who He claimed to be and the evidence that sin is paid for in full and death is conquered. It is the guarantee of our future resurrection from the dead and our future glorification.
