Revelation 10:
8 Then the voice that I had heard from heaven spoke to me again, saying, “Go, take the scroll that is open in the hand of the angel who is standing on the sea and on the land.”
9 So I went to the angel and told him to give me the little scroll. And he said to me, “Take and eat it; it will make your stomach bitter, but in your mouth it will be sweet as honey.”
10 And I took the little scroll from the hand of the angel and ate it. It was sweet as honey in my mouth, but when I had eaten it my stomach was made bitter.
11 And I was told, “You must again prophesy about many peoples and nations and languages and kings.” (ESV)

[The Best Words of Our Life 우리 생애 최고의 말씀]

In last preaching we studied the feeling of both fear and serendipity when we have spiritual daily life. Today we are about to study of both bitterly pain and sweet glorious feeling when we practice God’s words.
Our believing life consists of both the cross Jesus has already taken and the glory when He went back to heaven.
God’s words always let us know and feel both the cross and the glory.

The scroll John devoured symbolized God’s words.

I would like to call to your attention that it was sweet as honey in John’s mouth when he ate and it was bitter in his stomach.
In the Old Testament, Jeremiah and Ezekiel, they also had the sweet taste of God’s word but practice of it bitter. (Jeremiah 15:16-18, Ezekiel 2:9-3:3)
Nevertheless John couldn’t be passive 1) and furthermore he devoured it.
Born again Christians always love God’s word like devouring it. (Psalm 19: 9-10, 119:103)
Whenever we have the chance to hear God's word it is so sweet.
But when we practice sweet God’s word it is so bitter. It is hard to apply our situations.

My confidence is that God has given to me and I devoured it.

God’s word has two facets of sweet and bitter.

The most sweet and bitterly word in our life can be the Judgement day John preached here.
The best word of our life, the second coming of Jesus, is very sweet words for us even though that will be deadly bitter to all the people who do not believe in Him.
Can you imagine that Jesus will come again someday when we devour God’s word?
It is bitterly sweet but devouring.
