Every builder understands the importance of laying a good foundation prior to building a structure. The most beautiful, ornate house in the world is destined for destruction if the foundation is not solid. It may not be the most exciting aspect of a construction project, but it is arguably the most important, If the foundation is faulty, then the entire structure is bound to collapse. There are no shortcuts to this part of the building project, and the builders must pay close attention to it.
The church, likewise, must also be built on a firm foundation. Our theology, doctrine, and practice must be rooted in something sure that is not going to shift, bend or break every time a storm rears its ugly head. The church is not limited to a physical structure such as a house of worship but comprises all genuine believers in Jesus. Therefore, it is our lives that must be built on a sure foundation (Bible Expositor and Illuminator Union Gospel Press, Spring Quarter 2022).
