Last week we saw in the opening of this epistle, John laid out the foundation of our faith. Eye witness testimony, Hearing with their own ears the words of Jesus as they traveled with Him and later hearing from the Holy Spirit as they continued the ministry they were assigned to do.

Their testimony and their writings of which we are reading today in scripture, which is the gospel of Jesus Christ is what we build upon today. Woe to anyone who deviates or denies the full counsel of God’s word. Woe to the shepherds who are not feeding the flock.

Ezekiel 34:7-10

7 ‘Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the LORD: 8 “As I live,” says the Lord GOD, “surely because My flock became a prey, and My flock became food for every beast of the field, because there was no shepherd, nor did My shepherds search for My flock, but the shepherds fed themselves and did not feed My flock”— 9 therefore, O shepherds, hear the word of the LORD! 10 Thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, I am against the shepherds, and I will require My flock at their hand; I will cause them to cease feeding the sheep, and the shepherds shall feed themselves no more; for I will deliver My flock from their mouths, that they may no longer be food for them.”

While this word was against the shepherds of Israel, I believe it is a word for the pastors and leaders of the church today. For those that have ears, let them hear!

As we continue our study this week we will discuss light and darkness and those who deceive themselves regarding their sin.
