Our Father, you are the great Creator who made the world, fashioned mankind, and sanctified and blessed the Sabbath day. Oh, how generous you’ve been to give us six days for our own affairs and reserve but one for yourself. Yet we have sinned by failing to set apart the day as a tribute of time. Many worldly concerns have been allowed to encroach on our devotion to you. Our refusal to observe this day testifies against us. We have permitted work and recreations that are lawful on other days to interfere with our worship and service on the most sacred of days. What’s more, we have not celebrated the Sabbath as a blessing from heaven. How often have we deemed it a burden or a chore or something to be endured. Our hearts have been dull and lethargic when they should have been thrilled and overjoyed because of the two great benefits of creation and redemption. We have neither fixed our eyes nor fastened our hearts on the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ. Please forgive us for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

Minister: How doth Christ execute the office of a king?
Unison: Christ executes the office of a king, in calling out of the world a people to himself, and giving them officers, laws, and censures, by which he visibly governs them; in bestowing saving grace upon his elect, rewarding their obedience, and correcting them for their sins, preserving and supporting them under all their temptations and sufferings, restraining and overcoming all their enemies, and powerfully ordering all things for his own glory, and their good; and also in taking vengeance on the rest, who know not God, and obey not the gospel.
