If we know Jesus, you will follow Him from the heart. We see that we are new creatures with new abilities, if we've trusted Jesus. We have the ability to love what is lovely and what isn't lovely. But our remaining corruption still gets in the way. We will resist what is good and want to do what is bad so we need to guard our hearts.
