God has the remarkable ability to disguise great opportunities as times of suffering. Pain, disease, and all other evils may be things that Satan seeks to employ, but God sovereignly uses the sufferings they cause in our lives to advance and accomplish His purposes. God also uses trials and tragedy for our spiritual benefit as well, driving us to become more humble and dependent upon Him. Paul’s thorn was God’s constant reminder to him to remain humble. Satan can only harass a believer with God’s permission (cf. Job 1:12) (Bible Expositor and Illuminator Union Gospel Press, Spring Quarter 2022).
