Song # 2314 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read in 1 Kings chapter 16 that Zimri reigned as king for just seven days, before the Israelite army proclaimed Omri, the commander of the army as their king.
King Zimri reigned in Tirzah for seven days. When the Israelite army camped near Gibbethon (1 Kings 16:15), heard that Zimni had plotted against King Elah and murdered him, they proclaimd Omri, the commander of the army, king over Israel that very day in their camp (1 Kings 16:16). Then Omri and all the Israelites with him withdrew from Gibbethon and laid siege to Tirzah (1 Kings 16:17). When Zimri saw that the city was taken, he went into the citadel of the royal palace and set the palace on fire around him. So he died (1 Kings 16:18), because of the sins he had committed, doing evil in the eyes of the Lord and walking in the ways of Jeroboam and in the sin he had committed and had caused Israel to commit (1 Kings 16:19).
Thought for today: face your sins, repent, and put them behind you.
Thought for the future: God’s certainty will see us through life’s uncertainties. Where will you spend your eternity?
